Tibet and Yunnan on 4WD in winter (dec)
 

Dear fellow travellers

Together with my family we are currently on a RTW on our Land Rover. Since we cant drive through Myanmar we are exploring the option of driving through Tibet and Yunnan with a guide and license of course. The problem is that we will be there around december/january and we want to know if the route is passable then?

Currently all of China is on vacation due to national holiday so it is hard to get information from them. What is your experience from this time of year?

i cycled from kunming to diqing in january of i think it was 2002 anyway it was cold but the only snow i encounterd was on the north side so mountain passes where the sun never got to. the sky was always clear and blue and the views were fantastic which is often not the case in july when the main tourist time is. when i reached diqing i turned around and came back down in altitude and of course it was warmer. the north of the country was having a particualy bad winter from what i could make out of the tv news but yunnan was fine for me then.
