Hello hello.
Anyone any clues about the route east from Dar Es Salaam to Kigoma on Lake Tanganyka? There's a piste from Dodoma to Manyoni and then it's either along the railway to Tabora and Uvinza or the long way round via Kahama and Kibondo. I know this is kinda unlikely, but has anyone ridden that route?
Can it be done solo or would that be pushing it? What's the terrain? Looks like a mighty big open space, presumably a lot of thorny savannah.
Any help mucho appreciated.

Nice plan, loads of rough old roads in central Tan.One big play ground with realy good people. I road north south 3 times and the tracks are mainly sandy car ruts with gravel roads to relax on. Korogwe-Kondoa I can recomend, and roads through the Rungwa game reserve are deserted due to Tetsi flys which make them a good challenge. Be carefull with petrol cos there isnt much call for it in the remote places, but sometimes the grocery stores have a stockpile. eg. Between Taborra and Chunya(Mbeya) there wasnt any to be found. Hope this helps

Ye, the tetsi, worth the detour just to enjoy the experience. Like a wasp sting,and I counted 120 on my neck, face, and hands. They can fly up to 30kmh, at 25kmh and below they can perform acrobatics and land with precision.
ps. In Itigi theres one of those clean sheats, cool rooms and good food catholic missions to stay at, its on the road to Singidi, just out of town.
