Has anyone got any up to date information on general and road conditions after the floods . Kerala, Tamil nada please. Thinking of flying out in January and renting a bike.

Southern India will be fine at that time of year, there is a chance that you will see no rain at all. Certainly any damage to main roads will have been repaired and all roads should be passable.
The road up to Ooty is fantastic going through a national park then with 36 hairpin bends before you reach the top of the hill, from there head to Coimbatore and Munnar, the road south from there is possibly the best biking road in southern India.
You can head down to the southern tip of India then back up the coast on NH66 which runs all of the way to Mumbai.

Cheers Mark was concerned only because there were reports of huge damage as they had worst floods for many years . Have you just returned or been since monsoon .

I own a bike here but there are plenty of rentals out there, I have not been south yet, I am currently in Mumbai but have been told by Indian friends most or all of the problems with the roads have been sorted out, although Indian roads are not always up to European standards at the best of times.
