South/Central America - tips / advice ?
 

Hi All,

Having motorbiked around India, I'd love to do an overland RTW trip. However, I'm finding the logistics/costs of shipping/carne/insurance etc quite head-spinning. I was thinking of a lower-cost alternative:-

Could I just book a flight to somewhere in South/Central America. Buy something basic like a Honda/Yamaha 125cc and then set off, more or less, without anything but a international license and some decent insurance?

Would there still be a lot of hassle traveling between boarders with a bike bought in, say, Santiago? Any thoughts or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I bought my Honda CG 125 in Chile. It was much cheaper as to ship the bike i crosses Africa with to Southamerica.

To register it is allways a bit difficult but if you have been traveling allready you probably know how to deal with paperwork. As long as you have some papers showing the frame number AND your name on the same document you should be fine when crossing boarders:

1. What did you do about travel insurance?
2. Did you have a full motorbike license?
3. How have you found crossing boarders so far?

Yes but importend is only a stamp on the right field in something titled "international licence".
