Six week South African Tour 2016/17
 

Hello Everyone
I'm a little new at this.
My Partner and I have returned from our amazing three month European bike trip which included Morocco in October.

So now we are thinking of taking our first ever trip around South Africa. We feel that 4-8 weeks should give us enough time to see most areas. We will be two up on a GS1200:thumbup1:. Currently we have a Cape Town to Victoria Falls route planned but would appreciate any advice in regards to places to stay and see. We think that this part should take about three weeks???

We are also having a difficult time deciding the route back to Cape Town from Livingston/Victoria Falls. Coastal route through Mozambique is our preferred route but any advice on a Central route through Botswana down to Cape Town?? :helpsmilie:
What would your thoughts be for the best time of year, for both the weather and wildlife viewing? Thanks for your help...bier

Could not open your route plan ? March April, May good time to go or Sept, Oct.

Cape Point to Agulhas. Through Bredasdorp to Tankwa Nat.Park. Head N to Augrabies Falls to Luderitz, Sossusvlei, Deadvlei up to Swakopmund. Great dirt roads. Up coast To Henties Bay up to Ugab and Palmwag then to a camp outside Etosha, not allowed in park with bike. Otjiwarongo Cheetah Park is worth visiting. Stay in Ruacana and Katima Mullilo a couple nights, Then to Kasane camp and riverboat cruise is fun. Then to Vic Falls, tons to do there.

up to Victoria Falls??

Did something pretty similar in about 10 1/2 weeks this year, starting in Cape Town mid April two up on an 1100GS. Got as far north as Lake Tanganyika. Didn't do Moz because we found out too late that we apparently couldn't get visas at the border (may be incorrect) so went back through Zim.

Did Kasane in Bots to Martin's Drift border with SA on a previous trip, not a very interesting run- broke the trip in Nata. I really liked our trip to Bots- Okavango and all that- but Zim was a bit edgier and Great Zimbabwe is well worth seeing.

Yes 3 weeks is plenty of time to get to Vic Falls from CT. Namibia is spectacular and the dirt roads are very well maintained and try and see Fish River Canyon and Ai Ais. Caprivi to Kasane you will enjoy, and The Chobe Safari lodge has camping ( $16 ) or you can stay at the lodge, and the river cruise leaves from there ($32). From there to Vic Falls is a couple hours at most, depending on border crossing.
