SE Ukraine to Mongolia via Kazakhstan?
 

Hi there,

This site is excellent, so much information on here. Glad I found it!

Anyway, I'm planning an adventure for June. Driving an old Mercedes diesel through Europe into the South East of Ukraine and then crossing into Russia and heading towards Kazakhstan. From here it gets difficult as I can't find any maps.

I know of a newly built road through Kazakh but I understand it runs very far South and ends up at the Chinese border and not Mongolian.

What would you suggest is a good route? I want to avoid any offroad mud/sand roads if possible as the car isn't really suitable. Gravel roads should be fine and the main thing I want is scenery. If the car actually makes it there I plan to try and drive it back home again so if you can suggest a route home that would be helpful.
