Santa Cruz to Asuncion

Hi guys,

going from Santa Cruz, Bolivia to Asuncion soon and I´m trying figure out the road with the best conditions at the moment.

The most direct road seems to be through Villamontes and Filadelfia to Asuncion but I´m afraid te road is in a really bad condition in the rainy season.

Other option is to Corumba, Brazil, and then down to Paraguay. Anyone knows if that road is paved all the way at the moment?

Any recent information would be highly appreciated!

Cheers,

Woody

Woody,

I rode the route via Corumba all tha way to Foz in 2007 and the only part that wasn't paved was the St Cruz to Puerto Suarez, which is now a new road. Once you get out of Bolivia, the 'rainy season' below the continental divide (between Vilhena and Caceres) is Aug to Oct.

From Corumba make your way towards Campo Grande at first, then turn south and make for Bonito, Brazil. The place will blow your mind with its beauty! I won't say anymore, just look it up!

From Bonito continue south and enter Paraguay at Bela Vista Norte or Pedro Juan Caballero. From there you can easily make your way to Asuncion.

Cheers! Toby
