Safest/Best route Brownsville, TX to Panama
 

A friend and I will be starting (May 2016) the first leg of what we hope to be a segment version of a RTW tour. Brownsville, TX to Panama will be the first leg, after which we will store the bikes with the plan to ship them south for a second leg in the fall of 2016. (Yeah, I have a day job)

We are seeking advice from recently experienced travelers as to the best and safest route for the first leg. Matters may or may not be complicated by the fact that we will be travelling on small (200cc) bikes which will not be suitable for large highways where sustained travel over 55mph (90km) will be required.

All information which is relatively current will be greatly appreciated as would be border crossing information, as well as other information concerning the route.

The first leg of your trip from Matamoros to Victoria on the long straight road might be dangerous. keep an eye on the mirrors because vehicles come up fast. In the rest of Mexico, your little bikes should be fine. Take the libre roads and have fun,
