Route planning the the Amazon, Brazil
 

Hello,
Anyone know if it is possible to drive to Santarem, Brazil at the moment. We heard that the roads are pretty bad in the rainy season. We would be trying to do this in May in a Land Rover defender.
Any idea if it is possible?
Our other option is to ship the car from Belem to Santarem has anyone tried this?
Any advice very much appreciated.

santarem to the coast
 

hi i was wondering if you ended up driving to santarem?? My friend and i are traveling by motorcycles and getting the boat from manaus (should be there in about 3 weeks) and we were interested in getting off the boat at santarem and heading out by road towards Maraba all the way to the coast.
Any good recent information about this road???

I heard that it is the best way to start in Manaus to take a trip through the Amazonas, too. I Think its a great idea and wish you a lot of fun and good luck. Over the street condition i can´t give any informations, cause i wasn´t there, yet!
