Round the Black Sea on Honda C90s

Hi all

My boyfriend and I areriding round the Black Sea in September, starting / ending in Varna. We're doing this on a pair of mighty Honda C90s, called Ken and Zulu.

A few questions...

We've only got 3 weeks to do the trip so are going to have to road / air freight the bikes from Bristol /London to Varna and back. Does anyone know any cheap methods of packing and freighting the bikes?

Georgia / Russia.... obviously we want to ride through Georgia and cross into Russia. has anyone done this this year or is the only option the ferry from Trabazon to Sochi? What about ferries from within Georgia to Sochi, thus missing the border?

Finally - anyone done this trip before and got any hot tips on rocking places to see?

Thanks chaps!

Georgia border situation is currently unclear. There has been reference to this in many threads. Most up to date thread is probably this one (go to bottom of page 1 for the 2010 stuff -

I'm feeling too lazy to type much today.

I rode from Istanbul to the Ukraine-Roosia border at Kerch at the end of 2007. Good tips for that much of yr route and horror stories about the Roosian consulate in Odessa.

But like I said, I'm feeling lazy. I am, however, in Norwich, so if you want to meet up before you go, send me an email -- mikewith at hotmail dot com.

Cheers.

Hi Mike

Thanks for this, would love to meet up. I actually live in Bristol these days but I will be back in Norfolk sometime in the next few months so will drop you a line then and see if you are free for some Black Sea tips. The main thing is this Georgia / Russia situation but the situation is very different now to 2007.

Thanks again

Hi

I went to the Georgian embassy in London yesterday (March 24 10) to ask them if this recenely opened border is for international or CIS only. They were v helpful and actually rang through to the border post to check.

Sadly at the moment this border is only for CIS. So the only way to get round the Black Sea is to take a ferry (Trabzon-Sochi or Poti-Sochi). The Georgian embassy did say that by later this year they could open up the border more though, for all of us who are not CIS
