Road between Puertecitos and Route 1 Baja MX ?

I'm looking for information on the condition of the road between Puertecitos Bahia Mexico and Route 1 Bahia. Is it paved all the way to Route 1. Is it passable ?

I am on my way next week South to La Paz from Quaritze Arizona and want to ride the Gulf Coast rather then Route 1.

I am riding a loaded BMW R1200GS and am an older rider gravel and/or packed dirt is OK but the GS doesn't like deep sand when it is loaded.

I want to stop at Bahia De Los Angeles on the way down any info about tent camping or accommodation there would help.

Thank you

Hi guy,

No, the road is not paved yet. Just a bit past Puertocitos the road turns to gravel.

Here is a pic...you can see the road construction ahead, and the gravel heading to the right:

The road was in good shape, with some sections of pretty deep sand. Do a better job of picking a line than I did, LOL.

Make sure you stop at Alphonsina's and Coco's Corner. Coco, who suffers from poor health is an icon along this route. You'll probably want to stop for something cold to drink anyway...

Conditions can change, and they do, but the road past Coco's is much firmer-hard pack gravel all the way to the paved highway.

Enjoy your ride. I didn't camp, but instead chose very nice low cost hotels. For example, this one cost me about $30 a night. At these prices, why carry the extra weight, but there are gorgeous places to camp once you get along the sea of Cortez, many with restaurants, little stores, etc, etc.

My favorite hotel in Mulege:
