Poss visit to Madagscar
 

Has anybody any advice? is it possible to get 2 bikes in, what paper work is required?
We are thinking of doing it as an add on to our trip through Africa,

Jerome went with his KTM in 2005 - try pming him for the paperwork details.

route 7
 

Can't speak to the paperwork for getting bikes in and out (we flew in and then rented a vehicle), but madagascar is a GREAT destination. Even just doing route 7 from Tulear back to 'Tana is a great trip, with side ventures into several national parks - very varied topography, with everything from dry to very wet.

Route 7 is paved the whole way and easy - though be aware that it passes through a sapphire mining shanty town near Ilakaka that is pretty low on the safety scale. We've travelled in lots of places, hubby has been many times to afghanistan, peshawar and the like, and that shanty town was one of the only places we've been truly concerned about violence and personal safety.

The roads off of route 7 to the various parks are all dirt, but not too bad as long as they aren't wet. They're clayish, so get very slippery and messy with the least bit of water. We were in a 2wd (long story) and made it just about everywhere, but were really pushing the limits of the car.

We didn't do any driving in the north, but it's supposed to be beautiful. We did fly up to dive in the Nose Be area, and the diving was quite good - particularly in nov/dec when the whale sharks are around!

Bottom line, it's a great country and very friendly. It's a lot easier to get around if you speak some french, but it's not essential.

Travel4four thank you for the heads up on the shanty town info, I do speak a little French so that should not be a problem

my friend is now at madagascar, and he buy there honda dominator, and after his trip he will sell it, and it is the cheapest way i meán

That is for us not an option as we will be on our own bikes, but thanks, Pete
