Police/Military checkpoints in south of Turkey
Hey guys,
Need your help on this. I'm travelling from Marmaris to Adana then down to Yayladagi (going on to Syria). I'll be riding along the south coast all time. I need to know if there any many police/military checkpoints on the way. I'm of Lebanese nationality, and my parents are really worried that I might get into trouble there http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif I really need to allay their fears, so would like some advice. Thanks Mohannad |
Hi
I travelled this route in May and there were no police checkpoints enroute. The only time your are likey to get stopped in Turkey is for speeding which they are getting very hot on. So would advise to watch your speed. Did get stopped a few times in Syria though but no real problems. Regards Julio |
Hi,
I am in Turkey now (in Izmir). No worries about check points on south or else where. there are only patrol police cars on the way. just watch your speed. I'll ride to Lebanon on 3rd of September from Turkey. I got the visa from Lebanon embassy in Ankara. Hope to see you there. ps: it is boiling here 46 degree celcius today. ------------------ ride safely ozhan u. www.ozhanu.com/gezi |
Thanks guys.
Ozhanu, I'll be leaving Lebanon on the 29th of August, back to London. Anyway you can come earlier and we could meet up for a beer? Cheers, Mo |
I don't know what Turkey you guys were riding in, but I circled Turkey in June and there where military stops in the south and east all over the place. They were checking passports and license, were friendly and very young. No problems and no searches, but they were there.
I just opened my helmet and showed them the gray beard. I do like how those guys imeadiately become very respectful of an elder. The opposite of me when I was their age. Turkey was a wonderful tour, good food, paved roads, even though the tarmac was slick. People were great. Mostly road the small roads through small towns. The kids are learning english and were dying to practice on us. With my redneck accent I'm afraid I did not help them much. Have fun |
