Planning a Motorcycle trip from India (Bengaluru) to Malaysia
 

Hi,

I am planning for a motorcycle ride/trip from my home Bengaluru, India to Malaysia and ride back sometime end of February. Anyone with experience and details can you please provide some info and details on the challenges (documents, Carnets and etc) which could help for planning the trip.

Bengaluru - Myanmar (have to hire someone to ride along) - Laos - Cambodia - Malaysia.

Myanmar is closed for overlanding and has been for a while and most certainly will be for a while ahead - so I am not sure your plan is possible…

What's wrong with Thailand?

Between Myanmar (the country you can't enter with a m/c...) and Laos is Thailand. Between Cambodia and Malaysia is Thailand...

Heh - this guy hasnt even looked at the map before requiring others to give him all info needed for a long trip…..:rolleyes2:

They might be trying to avoid/need to avoid China, as to get from India to either Laos or Thailand while avoiding Myanmar would require going through China.

China was not mentioned at all in the opening post. Very strange that Thailand wasnt either - after all you cannot avoid to travel through Thailand when overlanding from India to Malaysia.

I was planning to ride to Thailand on the way back from Malaysia. I was not aware Myanmar is not open for Overlanding. The only other option is to go to Katmandu and cross into China.

So how did you plan to reach Malaysia on the outbond trip if not going through Thailand? :innocent::Beach:

Referring to a map (and assuming no knowledge of the logistical reality prevailing on the ground) it would be the OP stated: Myanmar to Laos.

OP writes he wants to travel from India (Bengaluru) to Malaysia. He then suggests this route: Bengaluru-Myanmar-Laos-Cambodia-Malaysia.

Ok - so how is he gonna get from Cambodia to Malaysia then???

BTW - there is no international bordercrossing between Myanmar and Laos….

Sorry, I was focussed on the Myanmar part too much and missed your point, my apologies.

I am well aware that Myanmar - Laos is not open (and I cannot remember it ever being opn), but it's clear that the OP is absolutely uninformed about prevailing realities on the ground.

To the OP: you can't just get on a bike and ride through China.

The only possible way is to do this route:

Begaluru-Nepal-China-Laos-Thailand-Malaysia - and the same way on the return. You could always drop into Cambodia either on the outbond or the return trip, but its not neccesary.

For China you need a guide and permits - the guide will provide more details about which documents that are needed.
Usually you need the bikes document translated to english, then you need a valid visa - for what countries an indian passport holder needs a visa in advance I am not the right person to ask. Also an international driving permit would be good to have and a Carnet is neccesary for Malaysia.
