Northern Sweden and Finland

I am planning a trip in Spring 2014, Denmark to Norway initially but then travelling into northern Sweden and Finland.

Any travel tips for these areas.

Depends much what you want to see, how far north you plan to go and perhaps most important how early in the spring you will do the trip. This is how it looked on march 15th a few years back....

There can be lots of snow even in May in some areas.

There are lots of beautiful motorcycle roads around Sweden. My favorite ones are around a lake named Siljan in Dalarna. Not that far north. And also the High Coast on the Swedish east coast between Härnösand and Örnsköldsvik. The High Coast is on Unesco´s World Heritage List.

There are lots of great bike roads up there. Again, much depending on what you want to see and when you plan to do the trip. I don´t know very much about roads in northern Finland unfortunately. I´ve gone up to Kirkenes/North Cape through northern Finland ones on a bike but ask me in a year from now. We are heading to Murmansk next summer and some of that will be through Finland.

If youre going to Northern Norway/Sweden/Finland i strongly recommend that you not go here before at least the middle of may. The northen areas here are still prone to snow and very cold tempratures before that time.
Its possible to go before but not recommendable....

If you go before that time maybe a snowmobile would be better.... :welcome:

Snakeboy is right, better to drive up North later on summertime.
We had a trip up North on midsummer and still one of my friend freeze hes cheekbones very badly. We had just a bad luck by the weather.. It can change dramatically! So, get with you some warm clothes just in case, when you drive up north!
If you drive with dual-sport bike, you should drive this "Old Postal Road between Alta-Kautokeino".
I have never driven that road by myself, but heard, that it is worth of it!

sorry to put a downer on your idea but i personally wouldn't bother with Sweden and Finland. My girlfriend is from Finland and so i ride over from UK all the time. 7 times now.

I have explored all 3 countries country's but its just sooooooo boring!!! :funmeterno:
saying that western Norway was great but after that its just flat with dead straight roads.
You will get some type of tunnel vision as all you get on each side of the road is trees. also because of this your views are very limited, there could be so many beautiful sights but you just wont see any which is an absolute shame considering how many lakes are there but your not elevated above them enough to appreciate them.

Also there isn't much to see there anyway because the populations of Sweden and Finland are so small.

again sorry to be a killjoy
