North America ideas
 

I'm currently in South America, gradually riding north. When I get to Colombia I'm considering flying the bike and myself to Miami, probably early July. All my pre-trip planning concentrated on S America, so I have no clue about N America and would be grateful for any ideas on what to see and great biking routes. I'm anticipating 6 months to a year and in addition would like to see some of Mexico. Many thanks. Mike

Ouch Miami in July, don't know what type of weather you are used to but Miami in July will be like a broiler. I don't know what the humidity is like where you have been, just be prepared.

I would recommend if you are going to be in the States during the middle of summer you start out in the northern parts where the weather is the best in July and work your way back down.

The above is VERY good advice. Anywhere in the South is HOT AS HELL with 100% humidity. Also, rain and Hurricanes. :(

July is the time you want to be in the North West of the country ... N. California and Sierra, N. Arizona, N. Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming.

Then into Canada, B.C., Yukon, Alaska. Summer and Fall are best for above states. Alaska will piss rain and get cold by Sept. but other states are all ridable until Oct. ...usually. Colorado passes only open July/August to about Sept /Oct. Short riding season but stunning.

By November, head into Mexico. Best month of the year there for beaches and sub tropical regions. A bit COLD in historic Sierra regions, but livable.

Oh ... and in the USA? BRING MONEY! You ain't in S. America any more! :rofl:

PS: for best routes work just one or two states ahead ... ask about specific states and routes. Main idea would be to head North quickly or to altitude. (for Summer) long haul from Florida ... but worth it for sure!

Many thanks for your thoughts. If I went for this option it has to be Miami as no crating is required, which saves $400. My thought was to get north asap and then drift south, the total opposite of my South American trip from Buenos Aires. Columbia to Miami would be via Lyn Cargo and is looking like around $1,000.

No question, Miami is where you need to ship to ... we're just letting you know what to expect weather wise.

Just use your best HOT weather gear and in 2 days of riding NORTH you'll up and out of that HOT zone. All the best, safe riding, thanks for the info.
