No planning fantasy from UK
Planning bogs me down. I know it is essential to a successful trip but please humour me!
If one day I was to pack up my bags and passport, load them on to my road bike and head of into the sunset.... How far could I get from the UK? Which route would you take? |
Don't forget your V5... but you can get quite far: the Russian border is about the limit really. You can buy a visa at the Turkish border (and Armenia too I think), you don't need one for Georgia. Any further requires a bit of pre-planning with regards to visa applications and even Carnet's for some countries. None of the Baltics or Balkans require a visa. Likewise, I don't think you need a visa for Morocco. This is all assuming you're a British passport holder.
When and where are you roughly thinking? Georgia is gorgeous, it's about the furthest and you get to go through loads of other nice places to get there. If that's a bit far, maybe down through Italy across the Med and up through the Balkans (or vice versa), the Adriatic Coastal road is fantastic, very scenic and twisty, and Croatia is beautiful. It's probably getting too cold for a loop north through Scandinavia but I can reccomend Latvia, surprisingly nice. South will be warmer of course, so I'd go to Morocco, plenty of adventure bang for your buck I reckon... mighty different to Blighty and Europe. Weather's still good, you can get a good taste of Africa and the Islamic culture/tradition, plenty of off road opportunities if that's your thing (rentals), cheap???... it just has lots to offer, at least that's what I would choose for a spontaneous end of season jaunt. |
Funny we drove to Georgia in a £460 LDV van a few years ago with minimal planning. Think a major boner kill is when the dreaded word 'carnet' gets raised. Thats a horrible way to lock up a large amount of cash. Definitely easy to get over whelmed.
Here is the (award winning *cough* haha) film from our Georgia trip by the way! Annoying the way vids won't embed on here..... here you go: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuOL2yg_zqc |
It's easy when you know how:
1. Just take everything after the equals sign in the video url: PuOL2yg_zqc 2. Wrap it in the Youtube tags by clicking on the youtube icon http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hub...ns/youtube.gif Voila :thumbup1: |
Howzit chap I have been planning a similar trip for years the exact opposite of planning, get out of the UK at Calais turn left and come back. Easter bank holiday is a good time take a day off either side leave Wednesday night after work, get the evening ferry to Calais and head for a Belgian campsite. From there get as remote as possible as quickly as possible Alps or Med?
What could possibly go wrong? |

I have been told that a Carnet is not required for Georgia am I wrong?? |
Correct. Neither a Carnet or a Visa is required for Georgia. Two great reasons to visit Georgia IMO,
