Nicaragua - Travel Advise, civil unrest continues
 

Hi Folks,

kind of soon we are crossing Central America on the way to Panama and forther South. Apart from the "drone restrictions" there seem to be another problem emerging in Nicaragua. Don´t know how it´s going to be in some month and I guess nobody knows, but what would be an alternative to get around Nicaragua e.g. with a ferry from El Salvador to Costa Rica? Smbdy has done that recently?

Here some information I received today:
Nationwide demonstrations are entering its fourth consecutive day as civil unrest continues to spread in the Central American nation in a response to reforms to the social security system. National sources indicate that protests have been reported in at least 40 regions of the country, with Managua and Esteli as the most noticeable ones. President Daniel Ortega has deployed military personnel to key urban centers in an attempt to restore order. Multiple sources indicate that at least ten people have died and a further 30 more have been injured during the clashes between protesters and anti-riot police. Various structures were set on fire during the early hours of Saturday morning and roadblocks continue to be assembled by demonstrators. Intense student-led demonstrations in Managua continue to be reported as the day unfolds. Other sources also indicate that various groups from the northern regions of the country are expected to travel to Managua to join the demonstrations, which is likely the exacerbate the situation.
