Morocco-Tunisia-Libya-Sudan-Ethiopia

Am about complete west coast of Africa, SA-Morocco, and am keen to continue 'round and down the east coast. However, must give Egypt a miss due to prohibitive vehicle import restrictions (I am driving an old Land Rover - hope that doesn't deter your assisting, but this is the best site for overlanding info ...).

Anyone on here have any experience entering into Tunisia then crossing Libya into Sudan (northern) and then Ethiopia (northern but not Eritrea) as a viable alternate route?

Specifics (especially ferry companies/ports and exact border crossing points for each country - and any/all else) greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Glen

You cannot cross the border from Morocco to Algeria in order to reach Tunisia. And it's not safe to cut across in Mauritania.

Thanks for the reply - began to wonder with so many views and zero responses ...!

I will be taking the ferry out of Morocco and over to Tunisia via Europe - that bits fine.

The key to the question is Tunisia into Libya into Sudan and then Ethiopia: has anyone done such a route, and if so, how exactly?

I have currently got the Sudan embassy here (Mauritania) researching the border situation with Libya so will be up to date on that and know which exact crossing are currently open (and also need Libya to cooperate with a visa, which is still in the works) but am very interested asap in learning from anyone here's firsthand experience across such a route rather than the standard Egypt-Sudan-Ethiopia ...

Cheers.
