Morocco. Places not to miss, places to stay?
Hi
In just over a week I will be departing to marocco for a 6 weeks motorbike trip. I've done (and still do) the usual research over the Internet and lonely planet but I sure don't want to miss any recommendations that you folks might have. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Regards David |
I suggest you take Chris Scott "Morocco Overland" book with you as well. Plenty of valuable info in there. Be smart, travel safe!

Lengthy MA accommodation thread here.
Places to visit: The middle of nowhere! Where you'll usually find a friendly local and a pot of tea. I second "Morocco Overland" recommendation. |
I took a visit last year, you've got to go to one of the desert areas and spend a night - touristy as that is, so Erg Chegaga or Erg Chebbi. I'd highly recommended Todra Gorge, it's beautiful and the road north from there is both fun and easy on the eye. Great hotel just north of the gorge, carved into the rock, Le Festival Auberge, if I remember correctly.
Marrakesh is the one can't miss city, worth a few days. Do have a Hammam, do visit the Cafe de la Post for dinner. All the cities are quite similar, once you've seen one bazzar full of tat you've seen them all. Fez and Rabat are worth seeing though, if you have time. Skip Casablanca, it's horrible. Chefchaouen is in all the guide books, so you'll already be planning to go there, it's worth it. Third vote for Morocco Overland, Chris is the man. Knows his stuff. Many thanks for your replies!

I'd recommend the Roman ruins at Volubilis. I'd like to stay at camp-bedouin-maroc.com next time instead of just a too brief lunch-time stop.
