Morocco on a SV650??
Hello knowledgeable friends,
Can I get your opinion, do you think its possible to painlessly make it to the sands of the Sahara on an SV650 (budget sport). My route would be south from Tangier then over the atlas following the Ziz gorge then on to Erfoud and keep heading south till the sand stops me. All in a week to 10 day time frame in Morocco in early March. Or would I be better of on my mates DR350 he's trying to flog me? your views would be appreciated ta Rich |
I'll second Pete's opinion, i took my VFR on a similar route down to Merzouga in October, with a chap on a Ducati 900 sport!, all the roads where mostly very good, had a police escort at 100-120mph for about 60 miles and saw 150 mph several times and we even went the last two miles a little more sedately across sand to see the "big dunes"

Cheers people, top advice, the only problem now is how can I delude myself I need a DR350?
Thanks Rich |
Rich,
There is hardly any sand in Morocco - it's pretty much all rock once you get off the very good sealed roads and onto the pistes. There is some sand if you want to find it, but no reason to drive through it if you don't want to. Make sure you have tough tyres if going off the sealed road and you should be fine. Plenty of Morocco info, pic's and piste info on my site (over 100 pages) ------------------ Cheers, Darrin NEW Moroccan Desert Pistes DVD out now: http://www.roamingyak.org/video/ |
Great site you've built there Darrin, lots of nice pix to get the feet twitching. Cheers for the info.
