Morocco Jan/Feb
 

Hi folks. I am going to Morocco Jan/Feb 2023 on my Himalyan. I've spent a fair bit of time there in the past (ex wife is Moroccan) but have only explored the country by car previously. Also I've not been there for nearly 10 years.
Looking for info on whether you can ride into Western Sahara nowadays, also would appreciate any recommendations for routes. I'll be heading through Fes down into the desert, should have 5 or 6 weeks to play with. I'll be taking a ferry to northern Spain initially, the ferry across to Morocco. Any advice/recommendations welcome.

I'm just back from 3 months out there and spent the last few weeks in the WS.

The main road down the coast has been hugely improved, south of Laayoune it's wide fast and smooth now. Regular fuel stations along the road and less police checks than there used to be (Laayoune, Boujdour and Dakhla Junction). We didn't go south of the Tropic of Cancer or take the road between Tantan and Laayoune this time.

In land are some amazing pistes but fuel on a bike is a big issue. Its 600km between Smara and Dakhla junction fuel stations.

I seem to be cursed with sand storms when I'm down there, day 3 on the piste and we had to abandon our planned route and divert to Dakhla to escape an incoming storm

Thanks for the reply and info. So far I've not really got a plan, apart from actually going. I can carry enough fuel for 600km with not much in reserve. Any particular pistes you'd recommend? Plan at the moment is to initially head for Fes as it has some personal significance for me (I made a decision there once that completely changed the course of my life) , then towards Merzouga/Zagora/Tata/Tantan. Back via Ourzazate/Errachidia with detours if I have time.
