Lithuania into Poland
 

Had a quick search on Hubb but cant find answer to... Travelling from Estonia ,Latvia ,Lithuania and into Poland, Am I going to touch Russia on this route? I notice a pocket to the south west of Lithuania. Dont want to have mess with visas unless I have to.
The trip Im doing is from UK [Dover to Calais] north to Norway [Nord Capp] east to Finland then eventually home thro the above and Czech Rep ,Austria , Italy and France.
Hope sombody can help with my question or any other info that is relevent. The trip is in aid of breast cancer,[my wife a survivor] Im hoping to raise some money for the hospital that treated her. Budget is tight so I will travel alone and intend to camp as much as possible. The trip is for also something I have longed to do, having read and followed you guys on the Hubb. Hi, went through Estonia Latvia and Lithuania a few years back when they just joined the EEC , and you can go into Poland no problem , Belarus will be on your left and Kaliningrad to your right . It's a narrow corridor some 25 miles wide , stick to the main road E67 in that area, and you will have no problems. The area is well sign posted and leaves you in no doubt of where to go. Just a simple map like Google maps will show you the route.

You won't even notice your proximity to Russia unless you go looking for it. And even then you'll have to look long and hard. But yes, if you can't see this on your map you need a better map.

There are no road border controls anymore all the way from France to Estonia if you stick to the EU (B, NL, D, PLN, LT, LV and EST). There are signs telling you are crossing old pre-Schengen/EU borders, and you may be routed round the old border buildings and compounds but there is no need to stop. (I drove it again, 10 weeks ago)

Ferries between Finland and Estonia are similarly Schengen/EU borders.

There is no way you can unintentionally wander into Belarus or Russia - either Kaliningrad t the west or the bigger bit to the east. There are full international border controls that willl not let you cross unless you have the correct documentation/visas etc - and several hours to spare!

Was in Estonia in July.
Take time out to wonder around Tallin.
Very friendly people and the old town is well worth a day or two.
Give Worthog a call, He showed us around Tallin and his lovely wife gave us a good insite into the history of the country.
They realy made our trip for us.
Look out for The Hill of Crosses on your way south.
No need to worry about borders, fuel or accomadation.
Easy touring.

I am planning my honeymoon for 2012 in just this area, as already stated you will not need to cross into Russia unless you want to, I assume your taking the ferry from Helsinki to Tallin?
If you want more info on the area try contacting the local HU communities, I did just that & they have been very, very helpful:thumbup1:

I was there in 2009 on my way to St. Petersburg, Russia and I have a fantastic memory of the atmosphere you can feel there!

It takes only a 30 / 45-minutes visit, but it's really a place you cannot miss (it's very close to the town of Siauliai in Lithuania).

I must say that I am very interested about those countries as well. I'm planning my trip from Switzerland to Mongolia next year, and it was an idea to go from Switzerland to Germany to Poland, and then Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia befor entering in Russia.

Would you recommand those countries? We hardly ever read report of bikers travelling there, might be interesting!?!

I would definitely recommend the Baltic States - travelled with Bushman (see his posting above) a few years back and we had no problems and everyone was friendly and there was lots to see.
