Kosovo
Anyone have any information on which Kosovo borders are easy and which are best avoided?
I'll be travelling Sofia to Athens mid-September then Athens to Luxembourg late-September and would like to cover off Albania, Macedonia, Kosovo, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia and Slovenia. I'm tentatively planning to travel via the Ohrid region, Durmitor, Mostar, the north Croatian coastline and Vrisic pass to the Dolomites between Tolmezzo and Cortina d'Ampezzo; 100% tarmac. Any tips for route or must-see places most welcome. Cheers! |
Hi, in the Durmitor don't miss the wonderful little road from Zabljak to Pluzine through the park .Stunning landscapes and no traffic

There is a camp site on that road near trsa, unfortunately it is tarmaced, but get off onto the dirt tracks ou can pass thou some lovely villages.
In Serbia the Mocra Gora railway and film village is cool. We had dinner there. The village has a hotel, which would be nice to stay at but a little expensive, so stay down the road to the hotel at the bottom is a lady who does a room over her bar for 10Euro a night per person. Also in Serbia Studenica monestary is ok there are two hotels... The one before / by the bridge is a mess, 5Euro / night / person. careful of the bed bugs! The one next door to the monestry is better and the food is ok too. We were there in august, great places and people. |
Thanks; excellent advice.

Hi.
No problem if you enter Kosovo from Serbia. It is not a real border but a check-point of KFOR (interesting to pass!!). It is more difficult enter Serbia from Kosovo. Serbia does not recognize the indipendence of Kosovo and the police may send you back and let you enter from another country, f.i. from Montenegro. :thumbup1: |
Nerretva Gorge, Bosnia
If you follow the Nerretva River up from Mostar through the mountains and on to Sarajevo you wont be disappointed. This might however, take you a bit far from the Adriatic Highway that runs up the coast of Croatia, an absolute stunner. In Bosnia and to an extent Croatia watch out for police hiding in bus shelters with their fund-raising hair-dryers (speed guns).

Thanks guys; great stuff. Heading out to Sofia to pick up the bike on Thursday.

Kosovo border at Hani i Enezit was one of the easiest and most pleasant crossings of the trip; no problem whatsoever. Enjoyed Kosovo very much.
