Itinerary and accommodation from Aktau (Kazakhstan) to Samarkand (Uzbekistan)

Hello,
My initial plan was heading from Baku through Iran and Turkmenistan to reach Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Due a problem with the passport, I can't go that way, instead I am crossing the Caspian Sea with the ferry from Baku to Aktau (Kazakhstan), and from there through Uzbekistan to Tajikistan/Kyrgyzstan.

Do you have any advice on the route to follow through Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan?

And more importantly, do you have any advice on accommodation?

Specially, between Aktau and the border with Uzbekistan, and the north of Uzbekistan.

Thank you in advance
Cheers
Samuel

On that route you more or less have to go via Beyneu, which is the armpit of nowhere but everyone's been there because it's the only town of any significant size on the road. There is a lot of nothingness in west KZ and north UZ and you should plan for at least 250kms tank range. Petrol stations are few and far between, most don't have petrol anyway but you can generally get bottles of 80 octane from roadside houses and cafes. Once you're past Nukus heading south things should get a bit easier.

More or less what I had in mind.
Thanks!

Hi, when are you heading there?

We will come from Moscow, but also go over Beyneu and north UZ.

We drive a diesel van, and want to fill up completely at Beyneu, together with extra jerrycans, to cover most of Uzbekistan. So that we only have to find diesel in Samarkand (or maybe Bukara) if we don't manage to go completely to Tajikistan on fuel from Kazakhstan.

That'd be great if we could join. I should get there by end of June.
what about you?
Cheers
Samuel

Was thinking half of June or a bit later, but we cannot plan that accurately, maybe end of June. We are with a family, so we may travel slow with our campervan :P
Maybe our path only match for a couple of hundred kilometers from Beyneu to Nukus or something.
Anyway, I think the area is pretty safe, with fuel as the only concern.

Yes, I think so too. It's also my concern.
I cannot be more accurate right now.
we can keep in touch and, as the time comes, see if it works out
Cheers
