Info on Potosi-Uyuni-Argentina roads needed
 

Hi guys, I`m currently in Potosì, planning to go to Uyuni from here and then towards Argentina. Has anyone done this recently? How are the roads? I`m on my own so too much mud wouldn`t be ideal for me. What would be the best route to Argentina from Uyuni? I tried to have updated info but I`m not being lucky and it takes to much time.

I did it a few months back so this is dated. The road to Uyuni was a crap road, rough as guts. It was dry at the time and it took all day.

I was a few days ahead of Travelingstrom. The Potosi/Uyuni road is a third new pavement, a third basic gravel/dirt, a third annoying ripio. Took me four or five hours one afternoon in a mix of sun, clouds and rain, and I'm not a fast rider. Don't fret, but do ask locally--there are a few river washes which might have changed drastically since January.

Most people heading directly for Argentina would head south from Potosi. For scenic appeal, the ride to San Pedro and then over Paso de Jama into Argentina is probably just as easy and a bit more interesting. Depends on your timeline and appetite for adventure.

Goes to show it's very personal what you enjoy. I loved that road. Thought there was a bit too much pavement myself. It was dry when I did it.
