india to isle of man 2007
we are a couple of kiwis in our early fifteies, our plan is: to fly our bmw 100gs/pd to delhi, northan india, pakistan, iran, turkey and on to isle of man for 2007 tt. Can this be done february to may? what is the best route? will snow/cold be a problem? any suggestion appreciated

I'd book your ferry and accom. in the I.O.M. very early as the whole island is completely chockablock in TT week. (And probably the most dangerous part of the trip, its like a war-zone with all the air ambulances flying about and people die every year so take care!)Fun though!

Think the KKH would be closed due to snow at this time of year though. Don't intend at this stage spending much time in Pakistan, Iran. Nor Grece, Italy, Spain, France etc. Mainly India, Nepal, Turkey, Morocco then IOM. Morocco could be done after the IOM? Bit hot then but a fall back possition. ---- WWhat are you thinking of doing after the IOM? I've got no inspiration here on that bit yet. I'm planning on doing it to. My Duc is in Melbourne right now and I'm in debt in California. Planning on riding from Melbourne to Isle of Man (and the Moto Giro in Italy). Nothing really planned right now. I'm hoping countries in Southeast Asia will ease up on motorcyclists.

thanks for the advice so far, we have accomodation in IOM. we intend to be in india, no further north than dharamsala, in january, then pakistan/iran/turkey febuary/march/april. any idea what weather to expect at this time in these places?

The KKH (Pakistan) will be closed to May.
I'd think if we stick south and low in elevation that things should be ok. Turkey could be the worst part as you have to go high - so I'd expect that may have snow? I'm yet to see/read "Istanbul to Kathmandu" (LP guide) and "Adventure Motorcycling Handbook" (Chris Scotts). I'd think they would have the information - the first one is out of the local libaray, the second I've orderd and should be here ... next week? If you're planning on coming here for 2007, then you might want to arrange your ferry especially now - the Steam Racket have their 2007 deposit site open now at http:www.2007TT.com - it's the centenary so may get booked fairly early.
Bear in mind that, from conversations for this years TT I've seen online, you may get bumped from your chosen booking (i.e., sail to/from Liverpool instead of Heysham or vice versa) |

If you are starting from India, Starting from Delhi will make you loose most of India! You would not have seen India at all, I strongly suggest you send your bikes by ship(B'cos its cheaper) or air to Chennai or to Pondichery on the east coast of India and then Ride up north seeing India on the way. There are hundreds of places that you can see on this ride from North to the south of India. Being an Indian myself I can vouch for the fact that starting from Delhi towards Pakistan would make you Miss the INDIA as we know it ! Interesting to read your posts. I am also planning on heading to Europe from Aus starting in Jan 2007. Frank, I had read that the KKH is open all year as it is a supply route for the Pakistani army and they keep it clear of snow. Have you heard differently? Look forward to reading your posts. in jan, in north india, around dharamshala, temp drop to around 2-3 degrees easily.u may find snow in mcleodganj ( a few kms upwards of dharamshala)
