Hello all,

From what I have read, I understand it is a major problem to take an Indian purchased Enfield through Pakistan without a carnet, if the destination is Europe.

Is it any different if you are planning on returning to India? Maybe having confirmation of return flights leaving india would help?

Current route plan with 3 riders - Purchase Enfields in Delhi, then on to Pakistan (KKH)- Guided trip to Kashgar - Kyrgyzstan - Tajikstan - Back to Kyrgyzstan - Paid guided trip back to Kashgar - back through Pakistan - India - Nepal - India and sell bikes back in Delhi.

I understand the money and hassle involved with going Pakistan to Kyrgyzstan but it seems possible.

If not possible, is the solution, just buying bikes in nepal and getting the Carnet?

Without a carnet, you are highly unlikely to get the motorcycles into Pakistan. So that´s the problem, and I don´t think it makes any difference, what you plan to do after that. And if I understood correctly, you´d want to enter Pakistan twice.

So from my understanding, the only way to make that trip possible is by buying bikes w/ carnets in nepal and tying up quite a bit of money into those.

Has anybody done a trip similar to this? Ridden enfields through the stans? Whats the resell value of bikes in nepal?

I did this run last year with a Nepali bullet. Apart from the CDP problem, only Indian residents can legally register a vehicle in India, so if you bought an Indian bike, you cannot transfer the papers into your name. This means, you would be attempting to cross all these borders with no CDP on a bike which is not in your name !
I bought my bike in Nepal for about 2000 squid and sold it 14000 klms later for about 1500. As I recall, the CDP cost around 1000 of which I got 500 back. Total expense for CDP and bike about 1000 squid, probably less than you will spend on visas and China crossing and guaranteed peace of mind !
