Impractical Peruvian Route Inquest

How impractical is it to ride from Cotahuasi Canyon to Cusco via the Andes?? The practical route would be either to the coast north and then east or west towards Puno and then north.

While Google Earth lists the direct distance at 400km, switchbacks are not taken into consideration. And do not give much of a clue as to the trip's difficulty. The most I have come up with is Cotahuasi to Andagua being a 'hard' road but the scenery making it all worth while.

Has anyone ever attempted the route? Cotauasi, Orcopampa, Santa Maria, Lancomayo, Cusipata, M.P.

Wishing to pay my respects to the world's deepest canyon, Bingham and Machu Picchu but by an alternate route.

A friend did it from the Colca Canyon. Said it was pretty remote and no fuel. He barely made it back!

" remote and no fuel. "

Would you recall how big was his bike? Greater than 400 cc?
Would you bring along a siphon tube, a spare fuel canister, or both?

He had a Yamaha Tenere 660. I don't know what he took.

Multi Thanx

Thank-you for the replies "C."
The Tenere is a great bike, but she drinks a fair share, especially at those altitudes.
The Valley of the Volcanoes deserves a photo capture.
Will keep y'all posted in October.
