I am planning a trip to scandinavia this summer but the thing is i have heard all the stories of how expensive things are and so i don't want to do all the planning and then find out its beyond my budget,

So could any of you kind people who live in Denmark,Sweden or Norway please tell me the average prices of things like a meal, a beer, a litre of fuel, accomadation that sort of thing,

Just a general comment; I didn't find Denmark, Sweden and Finland too bad cost-wise compared to UK prices (except beer in Sweden) last year but Norway ... crazy expensive.

Dave its not so bad if you screw your head on - there is lots of info on this site about travelling in Norway. Take your own food buy what you need at little co ops etc avoid restaurants and eating out. Buy a mug from a garage chain with free cofee at every one of the garages you produce your mug at etc. i have done many weeks up in Norway for as little as I would spend in the uK. Wild camping free, petrol similar to uk.

Don't drink in pubs, smoke cigarettes or change your oil and you'll do fine. Oh, and be prepared to camp out, especially in the north.

Let me see if I can help.
Let me start out saying that you should DEFINITELY visit Scandinavia. Scandinavia is the best place in the world in the summer.... just to bad our winters are 8-9 months:-)
It can be expensive if you are not aware of how we survive here :-)

Eating out is pretty expensive. Scandinavians love our kitchens and cook at home for the most part. Therefor its fairly cheap to shop groceries, but not to dine out.

Everybody here speak great english so just ask people if you can set up your tent. In Denmark you need approval from the ground owners before you make camp, but i believe you can do it anywhere in sweden ( obviously not on private property unless you ask.) But just ask and i can image anyone who woun't let you camp in their yard.

Here are some current prices from Denmark.

1 L of Octan 95 is EUR 1,48
A cheeseburger at McDonalds 1,34 EUR
Cheapest hotel from 67 EUR and up... you might find bed and breakfast which is 40-50 EUR... but it's not cheap at all.
Eating a Kebab is 3-5 EUR
Eating a burger + a 0.5L beer in a cafe is 20 EUR
Beer in a supermarket is 0.4 -1 EUR
Drinking a 0.5L beer in a club or cafe is 4.5-6 EUR
Bottle beer in local bodega is 2-3 EUR
Attractions is a broad term, but assume around 10 EUR for museum tickets.
A meal at a motorway rest stop is 6-10 EUR
A hotdog at an AMAZING danish hotdog stand is 3 EUR ( don't miss this)
10 oranges/apple/pears for 3 EUR in most supermarkets

Prices in Sweden and Norway are comparable. 10-20 % cheaper in sweden and 10-20% more expensive in Norway.

Alcohol is very expensive in Sweden and Norway.

Brigde Tolls in Denmark
Storebælt (between Fyn and Sjælland)14 EUR oneway for a motorcycle.
Øresund ( Denmark - Sweden) is 15-17 EUR one way for a motorcycle.

Hi Richard sorry about the vague remarks, I bought my mug (but cant find it its buried in the garage or shed somewhere) but it was a statoil fuel station I got it from. All it is - is one of the big fuel station companies - maybe others do it as well mine was statoil, it a sort of loyalty scheme you fill up with petrol, buy a large coffee and a mug with it (the mug cost about £6.00 going back a good few years ), but from then on every time you go to one of that fuel companies stations (and they are on all the main routes) then you get your coffee for free.

Yep

STATOIL you can buy a Thermos coffee MUG with lid.
It's different colour every year thing is that you can filled up in every STATOIL free of charge rest of the year.

So like "Anders MCTravellers.com" said it's not so expensive and every Scandinavian country you can find hut on Camping sites 20-40€ and if you found somebody to cheer it's even half when you split it.

Or if you like wild camping it's legal in Scandinavia there is post in this forum.

Does anyone know of a road atlas for Denmark (even all Scandinavia if needs be)? All I can find in England & on the web are folding paper maps but nothing in book form (which I find more practical out & about on the bike)
Or would it be a case of wait until I get there?

I used Reise Know-How. Waterproof folding maps with, for me, the right amount of detail.
