GPS Etravel Morocco

Hi all, I've been looking at the price of a download from Garmin for Morocco ONLY (100$). So, I'm wondering if anyone has tried gpsetravelguides? They're offering 20$ downloads for MOrocco, and other countries...

Are they scammin, anyone tried em?

If your after a Garmin GPS map for Morocco then
OSM
and/or
Oalfs' maps should do. Both free ... and many links here for these.

Read previous posts? For instance

Similar under the Equipment, Travel / Navigation forum.

Oh.. and a welcome to the hubb

Thanks...do these load into a typical garmin unit, and work similar to what comes with it, or are they another experience altogether?

Am still curious whether anyone has used the gpsetravel (as it comes up with google) service, which offers map packs for garmins way below the cost garmin charges...

Umm 'a typical garmin unit'? They make so many different types it is hard to say.

If you can load 'gpsetravel' on to it you should be able to load either or both Olafs and/or OSM.

'Looks too good to be true' .. you can see the comparison on that thread I linked to ... many of us use the maps, they are quite good. Umm look on the Morocco forum .. I think one of the 'stickies' has a POI file that contains more stuff, again free.

All this free stuff exists because of the work of others done for free. You can help by contributing your POI, tracks to OSM at least - that way the map improves. I'm presently trying to improve the OSM map for India - using the inspection tools and Bing Satellite views that are accessed through JOSM (Java OSM, an application for editing OSM data).

Cyri, I've used the topo maps on a Garmin Zumo 550 4 years ago. It can be downloaded to the Garmin with Mapsource. The detail is good but you could not automatically create routes with it. i.e. you can not select a city like Fez and ask the Garmin to create a route to get you to Fez.

I'm just back from the region and used the Garmin Maps on an SD card in Morrocco. Reasonable coverage and worked like my Eurooesn maps.

In Mauritania and Senegal I used Tracks for Africa(T4A) maps downloaded from the net and loaded on the Garmin with Mapsource for around £10 ($15). These worked ok for main roads and cities. Not sure if they have coverage for Morocco as I did not need it.

Hey Jim

I've downloaded the maps from the link i shared above, and they work fine for morocco in my 2495garmin, no unlock required to the sd card. Lots of detail for casablanca city, looking forward to using it heading south, looks almost as good as i could need.

Thanks for the t4a info, tempted to use it to stay warm in january february..

any ideas for where i could get some motul semisynth in casa or marakkech or agadir or south?
