Germany to Malaysia in 2015

Hi! Friends,
This may be a long call. I am planning a ride from Hamburg, Germany to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2015. A brief plan looks like this; Ride across Europe into Turkey, Iran, Central Asia Republics, China and South East Asia. If anyone or group planning to do the same or part of it especially into China please let me know.
At time of writing, I am riding solo onboard a 2008 KLR.
Would highly appreciate advise, comment or notes from HU members to assist me in doing this ride.

Getting into China and riding through entire China to Laos – that is the big problem on this route. Or actually (and simplifying the matter a little) it comes down to the question of how much money have you got?

You will need to contact a tour operator in China, to arrange a guide to meet you up at the border, and the guide will travel with you. I take the numbers from a hat (or I actually asked a few quotes from them some years ago, but you really need to do that yourself now, to find out more precise info) but anyway, I would not be surprised, if entry to China and guide costs would be over 5000 euros for this route. If you can get others to join you, then you may be able to split some of the costs, but there´s no way around the fact, that it´s big money. That kind of money goes a loooooooong way in many other parts of Asia.

From Kyrgyzstan to China to Karakoram Highway and Pakistan, that is a bit more commonly used route, because the route inside China is much shorter, so the costs may not go through the roof so easily.

I have a question for you guys: Is it possible to put the bike in a train and go across China this way without pay a guide? Technically you are not riding your own vehicle :thumbup1:

(I guess not)

Thanks for the reply and info. At the moment I am trying to gather bikers across China in 2015 and so far I got 4 bikers in my list. Anyone there wish to team up pls get in touch. A total 8 to 10 bikers would be reasonably good number I think.

Hey mate,
just went from Kiel to Bandar Abbas and shipped to Kuala Lumpur - if you need any specific info send me a PM. My travel buddy is back in Flensburg right now, I am sure he would meet with you for a beer if you're up to it... ;)

Thanks all for the in-put and info. Riding to the Stans and into China down to S. East Asia is about shortest route and may cut down guide expenses. I may opt this way. Or I may just skip China and ride across Russia with a short diversion into Mongolia and ship bike to Malaysia.
I am inviting those out there to join or team up with me to share guide cost if riding into China is intended.
Time is not a problem with me but money is.
:oops2:

Apa khabar Amzah and hello friends !

I am a newbie to HU, and Amzah, your 2015 adventure to SEA via China interests me a lot. I ride a F650 twin and have only been to Portugal, Spain and France. Planning to ride across Europe to Turkey next year, and I would be honoured and privileged if I could join your group in 2015. Any planned dates ?

Hello there,
Sorry for lapse of time to reply. Have not confirm my route Germany to Malaysia yet. Too many variables and uncertainties at least for now. What is certain I will fly my bike into Hamburg Germany in late April/early May 2015. Get things sorted out plus few visits to family in Netherland and friend in the UK by latest end of May head Eastward.
For now there are 2 other Malaysians are teaming up with me for this ride. We will mighty glad to whoever wish to join us ride Eastward. Easy and fun ride together.
For those who wish to join PM me. amzahsulaiman@yahoo.com

Salam En Amzah,

I'm doing the opposite way, from Malaysia to Spain and down to South Africa. I'm a Malaysian from KL. Started my journey on 1 April 2014, shipped my bike from KL to Kathmandu and from there will travel towards the west.

We are a husband and wife team and we are now in Kathmandu, next week leaving for Pokhara.

The plan is to travel for 13 months till South Africa and then from South America to the USA for another 15 months.

My email is zainal-b@hotmail.com

Cheers,

I am doing this in about 2 months from Lisbon to Singapore, crossing Turkey, Russia, central Asia, China, Laos, Thailand and Malaysia with an R1200 GSA.

I will post later.
