Germany-Sumatra 2016
Hi Guys,
I'm a 24 year-old student from Germany, who would like to do a motorcycle trip to Sumatra beginning in May 2016 until March 2017. I would like to go by a Honda Wave 110i. I am aware of the fact, that it won't be a easy trip with such a "motorcycle", but I analyzed all pros and cons. In addition, I still do not know, if and where I enter Pakistan, because of the current situation there. I still have to plan every detail of the route, but all in all I just would like to know, if it is possible at all to get to Sumatra within 10-11 months. I will write a blog about my trip as soon as I finished route planning. Thank you very much! Max :cool4: |
Pakistan
Hello Max,
welcome to the HUBB. This is the place to search for information about your route, sure you can do it on a 110 Wave, just make sure the engine is in good condition when you leave. Pakistan. You can still enter from Iran in the Southwest of the country and than ride through Beluchistan. It is not an easy route and not without risks, but doable. And of course you can cross China from Kyrgystan and ride the Karakorum Highway into Pakistan, but I dont know how a 110 Wave copes with high altitude. Make sure you know where to get a visa for Pakistan, because I remember somebody saying that you can only get it in your home country, but I dont know if this is true. Read about a Carnet de Passage and learn that you will need it to enter India and it is good to have in other countries. Enjoy your planing and dont spend too much money before you leave. mika (in Germany now) |
Hi Mika,
Thank you for your advice. Yes it is true, that you only can get your visa for Pakistan in Berlin or Frankfurt as a German. I already collected all important information about carnet and visa, but I was not sure about entering Pakistan. Well, I will keep you up to date about my planning :) Where are you right now in Germany? :D |
in Germany
Hi Max,
if you want I can give you the email address of a friend that traveled through Pakistan in August 2015, he will be happy to assist you with any questions. i am until mid of November in Weil der Stadt near Stuttgart. I dont know where you are, but if you want you can come over for a beer. By the way I traveled this year for seven months ... Europe, Russia, China, Central Asia, Turkey and back to Europe on a DR350, under Ride Tales here on the Hubb you will find a short report about the China part of this trip. So maybe I can give some information that you will need for planing your trip. bier mika |
That would be awesome, if you could send me a pm with his/her email address. I am staying in contact with a friend, who lives in Stuttgart. I asked him, if I could stay for night. He haven't replied yet, but I will send you a pm as soon as possible. Thank you for your advice and for your time

hey moosi
i planned a pretty similar trip. i'm starting a bit later than you, around end of july from Berlin on a yamaha XT600 43f. My Main Goal is to cross the whole of Nepal. when i arrive im gonna check my finances and the condition of the bike if it feels good i'm goin tot try to reach Bali. about the pakistan issue. at the moment i am planning on avoiding any FATA and Taliban regions by going through turkmenistan and tajikistan, cross the boarder to china and enter the north of pakistan via karakoram highway. even though its a lot longer way i think its totally worth it. send me mail if you wanna chat about your trip (i cant, i need 3 posts to send PM) cheers frostn |
