German Motorway Tolls from 2016
 

Information in the press out here only mentions cars so I am not sure if this will apply to motorcycles.

At least they're not going to build an endless series of paystations like on the French Autoroutes.

While I'd prefer not to be paying it I suppose it could be worse if you can get 10 days usage for 10 Euros. I currently pay more than that to go between Grenoble and Lyon (about 75 miles) - each way! The French motorways are so expensive for long distance that it's cheaper for me to take longer on the ordinary roads and pay for an overnight hotel.

If the Germans are going to do this it can't be long before the Dutch and Belgians join in and the French will then start charging on the currently free autoroutes that run close to the Belgian and German borders.

I agree that if it's going to happen, I'd rather have the system used in Austria (pay for a set number of days) than the system used in France. Having said that, you could always just avoid motorways all together! :D

Interesting to see if it really happens. As story says, sounds a bit strange if Germans do not have to pay it.
Unfortunately Germany is quite packed, so travelling a distance on smaller roads is really really slow...

Austrian system is really good. In Switzerland you need to buy Vignette for whole year. Italy is quite expensive too.

There is no way the Germans can charge everyone else but no their own people, I was talking to a German about this proposal of charging some 6 weeks ago and he said the main reason is they are fed up with Polish and other Eastern Europe Trucks using and destroying their road system. So what will happen now? people including trucks may well bypass motorways and cause even more problems, and the they may well find that tourism takes a 'nose dive'.

this already happens now. trucks already have to pay for using the motorways. the discussion is only for normal cars to pay also for the use of the motorways...

Yes, I think trucks have paid already quite a long time.
Does anyone know if French, Italians, Austrian and Swiss -people pay road toll in their own country? I think they do.

For me it does not matter if only tourists pay, but I am just wondering if EU finds some kind of "rule" that everyone need to pay road tax...
