First trip! Eur-Canada-Ushuaia-Eur. Places, borders, paperwork and shipping?
 

Hello!

Me and my girlfriend are planning a trip from Sweden to Canada down to Ushuaia, Argentina and back to Sweden again starting around september 2016. My bike is a Triumph tiger 800XC -11 and the plan is to be travelling for about 6 months.

This is our first long trip (I've been around Europe a few times) and would like to have your opinion on:
-Places/roads to see.
-Borders. (paperwork for us and the bike, problems anyone encountered)
-Paperwork for the trip (Visa, insurance, bikes paperwork)
-Shipping. (Europe-Canada and Argentina back to Europe, best companies, best prices etc)
-Routes.

-And everything you can come to think of!

All the help we can get is highly appreciated! I've searched this forum and even though my English is ok, its not my mother tongue, and my brain gets overloaded by reading a thousand threads and trying to make something out of it + we all have different plans and backgrounds. You can link to a good thread or refer to something in "the achievable dream" DVD or "Adventure Motorcycling Handbook" (I have them both) or give me your personal opinion.

Well the good news is that being an EU citizen means you won't need a visa (in advance) for anywhere on the American continent. The USA will probably be the most difficult country to enter, even that is straight forward enough.

I live in Canada and rode from California Oct.5th 2012 and arrived in Ushuaia Dec.7th. 2013. Then took a boat to Antarctica not with the bike of course and I am still in Argentina.
This was my first trip on a bike and I have been doing it 90% of the time solo.
Look at some of my posts regarding Central America.
Not sure what the requirements to temporarily import a bike into Canada and USA but Mexico, Central and South America do not require a lot of paper work. It is all done at the border crossings. Proof of ownership of the bike, insurance for Canada,USA, Mexico. Insurance for some of the Central American and South American countries can be bought at the border crossings, however not all countries require that you have proof of insurance. It really is not hard to do the border crossings.
I would suggest good paper maps, a Garmin GPS loaded with good maps.
There are many good places to go. I can give you lots of information but it would require a great deal of time. I suggest you send me your email address...and then the countries that you intend to go too and I will give you the information I have.
