First timer to Morocco

Greetings all

after several years of touring mainland Europe now feel ready to try a bit further afield.

Morocco is the destination and i´m pretty hasppy with most of it, just after some experienced hands to advise on the best way to cross from Spain.

ie. Algeciras Tangiers med, or Ceuta, for example.

I,ll have about a week in Morocco as I have to allow to getting to the South of Spain from the uk, and back, so time in crossing is of the essence, and the least hassle way too if possible.

Other than that good to go I think. If anything else comes up (sure it will) I,ll ask again

many thanks in advance.

Happy travels

Hi,

I've done Algeciras to Tanger Med a few times and I would recommend it for a first timer as it's pretty much hassle free (no touts) . Make sure you print off the D16 ter form you'll need once you get to customs at Tanger Med from www.douane.gov.ma as that'll save time once you get there .

Soon as you get on board get in the queue and get your passport stamped and that's pretty much it.

Hope this helps.

Yes, very much thank you. The temporay bike import form i knew about and if i read correctly i have to fill similar for myself in too when passport stamped.

Sorry if the questions seem basic to experienced travellers, but to me trying something new it provides emotional security..

many thanks:thumbup1:

Hi,

I came over a few days ago. I went from Tarifa using FRS, just showed up at the port, bought ticket and drove through. I understand they run every 2 hours and the road down to the port is quite nice.
Other side really easy, fill out the form. There are some "helper" there who will do it for you for a couple of euros, but no need. One of the furthest windows are where you get your passport registered, then there was the customs guys walking between the cars, he takes your form then after a short while gives 2 of the copies back to you and you are good to go. No hassle.

I went last Summer for the first time, and I went from Algeciras to Tanger Med. I must admit, I do like to plan ahead! Having said this, I too just rocked up and bought a ticket on the day - the next available ferry! You don't need the vehicle forms until after you get off the boat. Wen you get on, depending on the day and the number of people with you, get a couple of white forms (in case you make a mistake!) and queue ASAP! I spent a good hour just queuing! When you arrive, and arrive at customs (just ride past the cars to the front - I was told to do this by officials!) hand over your V5 with the import forms. The local official just kept shouting at me until I realised what he was after! Very easy, and the money changing just after this! Very quick and easy for my first time, and I'd recommend it to anyone. Have a great trip!

When are you planning to leave and what route south?

yoda239 21 Nov 2013 20:48

Hi

the trip wont be for a year or so yet, i'm lucky enough to have a couple of trips already for 2014 already planned.

I've got the bike about ready now and together with my usual touring buddies are busy planning the route.

It'll be a loop to try to get the most out of it without going mad so we get to enjoy it.After all we can always come back......

Something like Tangiers Med - Chefchaouen, - Fes,- Errachidia,- Ouarzazate,- Marrakesh,- Casablanca, then follow the coast up via Rabat, Larache back to Tangiers, taking about 8 days.. but we're negotiating it at the moment..

My planning may be a bit OTT but I like all my surprises to be pleasant where possible...

To get to tangiers we'll do what we did before, boat to Sanatnder and have a relaxed tour to the bottom of Spain. this is as far as we got last time.

regards

I love Fes you can easily spend a few days exploring there both old an new. For about £20 you can get an official guide to take you around the old town/souks/museums/sights for the whole day, well worth it. Dump the bike safe and take a yellow cab, very cheap. Also checkout Volubilis great Roman ruins if you like that sort of this.
Edit: wrong colour ! Red cab for Fes :)
