Ferry from Turkey to Greece
 

Can anyone tell me if there is a vehicle ferry from Turkey to the Greece mainland? I know relations between the two countries are not great, but there must be a ferry that I can catch to avoid the long way over the Aegean.

I didn't see anything about a direct ferry on this site or OMM, but perhaps there's an indirect link through the islands? Thanks for the info.

The Cesme-Chios route is probably your best bet and Chios is said to be very nice. However, as Lonely Planet points out, ferry services to and from Turkey are notoriously unreliable, so contact the ferry company before travelling hundreds of km and don't pay in advance. From Chios there is an overnight ferry to Piraeos (Athens).

There are some ferries between the islands and the turkish mainland.

But i think most of them are passenger boats, except to Cesme(TR)like before said. But because its off-season now, i am not sure if they are operating.

I'm at the moment in a netcafe in Chios, just came from Cesme this morning. The ferry to Piraeus is not running everyday, so you need to check its schedule. I heard it was sailing to thursdays and fridays. It is a over night cruse.

Other ferry-lines have stopped. Marmaris to Rhodos, and Kusadasi to Samos have stopped. The information you hear from the travel agencis, f.exp. in Istanbul, are not always correct, so it is the best way to get the the port and ask the local travel agency.

The ferry trip from Cesme to Chios (1hr) costs 60-70euru (with motorbike) and the trip Chios to Piraeus (10hr) cost the same.

Overland is a fine one or two day trip. No problem.

I always take the ferry in Cannakale, because i don't like big cities like Istanbul.
