Europe - Kyrgyzstan

Hello Everybody,

I am planning a road trip to Kyrgyzstan, starting from Slovenia in May.
I plan to spend a month on the road crossing the Balkans (in one day), driving through Turkey, spending about 12 days in Iran and then continuing to Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and ending in Kyrgyzstan. I will leave a van there to my friend who will drive it back home, while I will take a flight home.

I will be driving 98' Volkswagen transporter Syncro. I plan to put a bed in the back and put an All terrain tyres on the Van.

I would much appreciate any help and tips regarding paperwork, safety, must see's, etc.

My main concerns:
-Safety on Pamir highway (road condition in May)
-I wont be an owner of the vehicle (a friend that is driving vehicle back is). Should I expect any troubles on the way? How do I make sure I dont have any troubles due to ownership?
-Do I need a carnet? - I read about carnet in Iran. Is it still necessary?
-....

Thank you!

Hello!
Yes you need a CPD to enter in Iran or you can contact Hossein. He is an iranian guide, he can arranged your trip through Iran without CPD (and it is often cheaper than CPD).
You will need visa for Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan (For the kirghizstan, it depends what nationality you are).
If you want to ride in the Pamir mountains (M41) you will need a special permit (GBAO permit)
May is the beginning of snowmelt I think... Some part of the road can be hard sometime!
Very nice road trip!
