Europe - India Winter
Hi,
i planned to ride my motorcycle from Germany to India. The well known route europe - Turkey - Iran - Pakistan - India I did all the research and wanted to start my trip in August 2015. But everething got delayed and at the earliest i could start is end of Setember. My Question is. Is this still a good time to ride. Or will i get stuck in the snow and freeze off my nose? I thought about arriving Iran around 1.11 and Pakistan 1.12. Average temeratures seem to be all right. But as far as i know i have to go up in the mountains some times where temperatures drastically drop. Would you still suggest me to start or problay better delay my trip for a year? |

It was still quite warm on Turkish Aegean coast, but considerably cooler inland, and especially when getting closer to the Iranian border, it started to get bitterly cold, barely above freezing in the daytime, and dropped below freezing for nights (but, luckily, not way below, something like perhaps -5C or -7C, was the worst).. then after crossing into Iran, it started to gradually warm up again, even though the nights did stay quite cool, all the way to India actually. Daytime temps from about Teheran onwards were +20C or over, and closer to +30C once I got close to Pakistan. The critical part as far as avoiding wintry weather, was eastern Turkey. But remember, that when winter arrives, will vary from year to year. On a bike, I would certainly not make that crossing into Iran much later than I did... Weather is not the only thing to keep a close eye on... Do note, that the long time conflict between Turkish government and PKK has considerably flared up lately. And the migrant crisis is also affecting Turkey as a whole, and particularly the border areas between Turkey & Iran. Most likely the Iranian side as well. |
I'm currently headed towards Turkey for Iran hoping weather will be ok

Europe - India Winter
When you get to India, the winter is really the best time to go for all the country accept the high Himalaya. The passes to Ladakh will be officially closed but the lower pass to Srinagar should remain open. Even the lower mountains, most of Himachal for instance or Uttrakand, should be perfectly fine on winter months with low precipitation, cool but sunny days. Be prepared for cold mornings and nights on the plains bit warm, sunny days also. Sometimes around December a terrible fog causes havoc on the roads and railways. Winter in southern India is considered peak season, with low humidity, no rain and pleasant days. Hope this helps!

i'm planning same route (iran-pakistan-india) but entering iran later than the topic-starter and leaving for pakistan earlier. suggest the weather should be at least above zero (if not mountains) as per previous weather archive . and in pakistan, as far as i know, there are not many options where to go and the police attends the riders all over the road...
