Hey I'm in the early stages of planning a similar trip and I am mostly wondering what route you are planning on taking and what the easiest way to get the bike to 'Straya is? I'm not looking for a travel partner though but maybe we can share helpful info? I was thinking once getting to Turkey to go to Iran, Pakistan, India, Nepal, India, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam. I haven't looked very deep into shipping the bike to Australia but do you know where and easy/cheap port is or if a cargo plane would be possible?

Hi there,

I air freighted from Kuching to Perth in April 2016 as part of a London to Sydney trip, having researched the options open to me. Cost in the region of £800 if I recall.

In doing so I looked at the alternatives - I had originally wanted to ride to East Timor and freight by sea to Darwin, but that was only possible by container ship which took 2-3 weeks, back via Singapore and cost a similar amount.

As for air freight into Darwin, I understand that's possible from Bali but only possible for smaller bikes due to the size of the aircraft used. That said, if you at a more medium sized bike and were able to strip-off wheels, front forks, fairing etc and squeeze it into a small enough create then it might be possible.

Hello all,

I was thinking of a similar trip to the one you propose. My intention was to ride my motorbike across 25 countries, including both the Pamir and Karakoram Highway.

Let's hope 2022 is the year. My intention was to leave early June 2022. and finally reach Kuala Lumpur.

Happy to share info regarding the planning.
