England to Serra Leone

Hay folks,

We are planning a trip to SL, most likely via Bamako. We drove to the Gambia last xmas. However not traveled to Mali before so we are unsuer what to expect heading abit more inland.

Primarlay iam looking for advice on the best way to get to Bamaka and how long (if all goes well) it may take. Is it best to travel through Muaritania and cross to Mali. Or what about driveing into Sengal and crossing the border to mali there?

We will not be driveing a 4x4 and due to work, we caint hang around for as long as we would like.

Manythanks

I don't get it, you ask if you can drive to X but 'won't have the 4x4' - so you're on bikes?

I'd steer clear of Senegal, head straight into Mali, that way you pick up the 'best' road into Guinea before dropping down into Sierra Leone from Conakry (the other roads are horrendous out of Guinea)

If you did it via Senegal you could cross the border into Guinea, terrible roads as far as Labe then tar to Conakry.

In that case your only route for a vehicle like that is Mali - Guinea (via Kankan) to Conakry & into SL. The other routes will break it up; Guineas roads are the worst I've seen in W.Africa
