Egypt is dangerous?

Hello,
we are planning to go to Egypt, possibly by ferry with a van or 4WD. But, for a while, we have a lot of doubts about if Egypt is possibly and too much dangerous to visit by feet o by car.

Has anyone got lastest news about it?
Thank you!!!

Hi,

:welcome:

Crossed Egypt a couple of months ago in my Land Rover and with my dog, from Sudan. No issues whatsoever, felt very welcome!

Cheers,

Gee

Travel risk assessment is always a difficult thing! You should try to find all possible sources.

Listening to travelers who have recently been in the country or region you want to visit is one aspect. However they often don't see the complete picture! And just because one or two people and parties made it through does not mean that a certain region or route is safe. They will also tell you that they experienced great people, lots of hospitality ect. No doubt about that, but at the same time the numerous extremists might just been busy with something else at that time. Also the folks who were blown up in a tourist bus or kidnapped will not be around any more to give their view of things! And a couple of months ago the situation might have been a completely different one!

Now there are the government agencies, who of course will be at the other side of the spectrum, giving you a much more negative view, because they need to make sure that they are not accused of neglecting their citizens safety in case things go wrong.

Travelling in a war zone or unstable countries is something like operating a nuclear reactor. Even if the risk that something happens is small, the consequences of such an event could be catastrophic! So yes, I am admitting to be more the extra-carefull guy, but that also gives me a more relaxed vacation. And yes, I am missing great countries with mostly great people, admitted.

The final discussion is up to you and you should find as many sources of info as possible! Good luck with your trip, if you decide to go!
