Driving in Kazakhstan on April
 

Hey there,
I am desperately looking for info regarding the possibility of driving in Kazakhstan during April month.
My plan is to ship the bike from India to Astana and drive it toward Turkey through Southern Russia.
If any one knows if it is possible in terms of weather please assist :)

ive been in kz when its snowed in may, im in Tengiz which is 100km from Kulsary at the moment and it seems to be a lot colder than this time last year and we have already had snow, the road here would be no fun on a bike, all our local guys are saying they are expecting a long hard winter this year, but this is kz anything could happen.yesterday i was in full thermal overalls with windchill -17 today im in a teeshirt:funmeterno:

Astana in April
 

i have no choice. I have to ride a motorcycle out of Astana and into Russia in the first 3 days of April next year.

Average weather for the first week of April is a range of -5 to +5... but that can be out by 10 degrees in reality.

I had the pleasure of living in Almaty (not Astana, but not a LONG way off) for two years in the early '90s. As a generalization, we found the weather to be a lot like the front range of the Rockies. April will LIKELY be do-able, but the weather is variable. A storm can blow through, though winter should be about used up, and storms are often followed by bright skies and melting temps. One unprofessional "rule of thumb" we used is that you could watch the weather in Moscow, add about 4 days, and predict what you'd get (though not as cold). If you're strapped to 3 specific days, you get what you get -- a roll of the dice, yes?
