Driving home - stoke Mandaville to Cape town

I am part of an expedition (4 x 4) driving from Stoke Mandaville Hospital to Cape Town. We are raising money for Spinal Injuries since our team leader is paralysed from the sholders down. We are entering Africa at Tunisia and then taking the East coast. Does anyone have any useful tips on routes and border crossings (ethiopia - kenya, and sudan - ethiopia in particular).
Saying that, any useful info would be appreciated - we leave November and are planning to arrive beginning of April. If you are interested in looking at the website it is www.drivinghome.co.uk.

Thanks for any advice

Kiko

If you search the sub-saharan africa section of the HUBB there have been plenty of posts in the last month about the crossings from Sudan - Ethiopia and Ethiopia -Kenya.

The main Sudanese - Ethiopian crossing is Gallabat / Metemma on the dirt road from Gedaref (Sudan) to Gondar (Ethiopia). The road could be a bit muddy if it has been raining, but your biggest hurdle will be the patience required when clearing customs / immigration on the Sudanese side.

There have been lots of recent posts about the two routes south from Ethiopia. The main Kenyan crossing is at Moyale, although read the post about the recent tribal conflicts on this road.

The Ethiopia/Kenya border crossing is the easiest one in Africa (so far). Very relaxed! You can even do all the paperwork the day before - both sides - go back into Ethiopia and leave in the morning.
I took the Wajir road south as the Marsabit road was somewhat hairy at the time. No problems except the road itself is dire, and tarmac from Garissa to Nairobi.
