Down the coast in California - detour called the lost coast
 

I think most Californian riders know about this, but I had never heard of it, so I thought I'd put it up here. A guy in a bike shop in Eureka laid it out for me.

South from Eureka, there's a turn off from the 101 onto 211. You head through a pretty little town called Ferndale and then onto Mattole Rd. This road is patchy and has some gravel sections, but it's fantastic riding and the views are incredible. Just watch those cattle grids... now that I mention it, watch out for cows as well. The section that runs on the coast is brilliant.

There are a couple ways to get back to 101. I took Wilder Ridge Road>Ettersburg Rd>Briceland Thorn Rd>Redwood>101
