Denmark - Israel

Hi there

I plan on going from Denmark to Israel on my Honda NX 650. How do I do that? Seems like there are no regular ferries to Israel, and I guess it´s quite impossible to go through Syria or lebanon.

Would it be possible to sail to Egypt from Greece og Italy? And then reach Israel via Sinai?

Answers much appreciated.

As far as I know you can get to Israel via Syria and Jordan. But you wont be allowed to cross back over those borders with a Israeli stamp in your passport.

Pieter.

Sounds right, but that would leave my bike stranded in Israel, wouldn´t it?

Does anyone know of any ferries going from turkey to israel? Or from europe to egypt?

Alas, no. This is one of the FAQs. Search the HUBB for more details.

Hi,

I planned a similar trip last year. Although I did not make it (did not have enough time), I did some research on this issue.

As far as I am informed, it shoud definitely be possible to get into Israel via Syria and Jordan. And from Haifa, there are several ferris to Greece, e.g. this one http://www.greekislands.gr/poseidon/

However, apparantly some of the lines stopped their service because of intifada and the gulf war, so you may want to do some research about the actual situation.

Further, I heard from a guy who was forced to leave his GPS-device at the border when he entered Syria (but he was able to pick it up on his way back). That might be a problem as well in case you want to use GPS.

Regards

Lars

Looks like Poseidon have stopped sailing. I´ve seen others mentioning this, so it´s probably right.

There is no ferry from Turkey to Israel. There might be ferry from Cyprus Greek Fraction.
Good Luck

Hi Yoni,

That sounds like good news for us travellers. Can you please post contact info for these shipping lines (preferably websites).

Thanks a lot for all the answers. Nice to hear it´s possible, might go late this summer.

beddhist 23 May 2005 05:06

Strange, Allalouf seems to be a freight co.

On Rosenfeld's when you click on their ferries, it says:

Ferry Boat service has been suspended till further notice.

Are we any further ahead in our quest for ferries from Israel?

Hi Peter
I've made some phones on that.
Alalluf is cargo only.
Now, Rosenfeld's ferry take cars but not people. The lady from Rosenfeld said this:
From Greece To Israel you have to call Salamis Sipping in Athens, phone http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/frown.giffrom uotside Greece) 0030-210-429-4325 they will take your bike here, and may take you too.
From Israel back to Greece you call Rosenfeld here in israel: 04- 8613671 and they will take your bike there.no problem!
When you're here, contact me via HU I'll help.

Yoni

Thanks for going to all that trouble for us travellers, Yoni.

To summarise then:

Salamis' website still says "service suspended" and hasn't been updated for at least 3 years. I suspect the co. has sunk.

No ferries from Israel.

Rosenfeld will transport bikes, but not people. Being ro-ro the bike can perhaps be transported uncrated.

Well Peter
Welcom to "the way things are done in the middle east" Rosenfeld are the agensts of Salamis. they seems tohave full ships all the time so they dont advertise. but if you'll contact them personaly, it will be done. a last week 6fellow bikers sent bikes two ways no problem.
