Dar Es Salaam to Capetown
Currently exploring possibilities for a trip in late 2011 and wondered wether anyone has done Dar to Capetown recently?
Any experience of flying a bike in to Dar, especially extracting it from the shippers- haven't got time to hang round for days (and definitely not weeks!) Also, would it be totally unreasonable to expect to be able to do it in around three weeks? Cheers Reggie |
i'm in tanga north tanz waiting for my moz visa which should be ready monday. no longer available on the tanz-moz border & takes 5 days in dar.
then i head to capetown via moz-malawi-zambia-zimb-bots-namib-rsa. mate did nairobi-cape town in 8 days so no probs with 3 weeks dar-cape but might be rushed... can't advise on the shipping but i can give you contacts for a guy who sent his bike with BA from dar-amsterdam a few weeks ago. as i understand clearing customs in dar is hard work. maybe look into sending bike to kili international in arusha north tanz instead. pm me & i'll let you know how tanz-rsa goes. d |
Hey D,
Will PM for sure. Thanks for the feedback. Any info welcome (would certainly like to get info on Dar customs problems) as it looks like my other half is on board with this one so it may well be a goer:clap: Good luck with the trip! Cheers Three Dawg |

The problem is that you never have full control when it comes to shipping, it might take days or much longer. I have managed to get a bike out from the airport in Nairobi in 4 hours and I will probably also use Jomo Kenyatta Intl Airport next time. It's only two days north of Dar. |
