Crossing Syria - still possible?
With the troubles in the major cities, is the north-south main highway from Turkey to Jordan still possible for overlanders? ...do any truckers try it?
|
You dont read the news.Syria is in war.
|
I think official you cant but nothing is impossible when i crossed Sudan there was war as well and in Congo too so it depends on how you are able to deal with people and if you want to take the risc...

Before you even start worrying about the war, and what would be the chances to get shot, a practical starting point would be to find out, are Syria's borders currently open for foreigners or not, do you need a visa, and if yes, can you get one.

WAR
It is under real war.
North part of Turkey, especially borders are under control of opposition movement. Nowadays border is closed. If you could manage to pass to Syrian side, opposition soldiers will not let you go beyond their land. If you pass, Esad's soldiers will accept you as a spy of Turkey or opposition movement. So the scene is very serious... and I don't recommend you to try it at all... Of course if you want to be alive, if you want to suicide just go on... |
@Samy
a little correction. should be nort part Syria and not ""North part of Turkey,"" and all the best for your trip..hope all going well.. STILL IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!! Completely correct and current situation is getting worse every day..Almost 130.ooo syrian immigrants already at Turkish side and Iraq Kurdish groups are also active in north Syria now... Thats why some ferries started running to Egypt and Haifa from mersin and İskenderun which is the only opportunity for trucks to carry goods to Gulf and african countries.. Wish you all the best.
