Croatia

Hi

I'm planning to ride down to Croatia (from Scotland) in late August, can anyone give me any help with places to stay, I'm not camping, so hotels, B&B's etc would be good

Also are there any bike clubs or bike meets? I'm keen to meet some local bikers

Croatia looks great, I'm looking forward to visiting

Thanks

Mark

I rode to Croatia solo last summer, I can't really recomend accomodation as I camped so can't help with accomodation.

But the top of the stelvio pass is a pretty good place to meet bikers as is Interlaken in Switzerland.

The Coast Road in Croatia is pretty much the best road i've ever ridden and Zadar is always full of bikers!!

we did the adriatic last sept. from greece, albania etc etc, all truly stunning.
the coast road from dubrvnik was prob. the best biking ive ever done. it was really quiet in sept. but i guess that it will be fill of campervans in august which may spoil the ride. the best for me was being able to stop at the side of the road when it got hot, pull over, hop over the wall and have a swim, then back on the bike nice and cool., as for places to stay, dubrovnik was expensive but plenty of hotels. what we found though was that there was always people standing holding up boards offering accomodation, sounds dodgy i know but we used them a few times and got some cracking digs for as little as 10euros each. the best was in a small place called Marina, just north of split. ask at the village they will point you in the right direction.
hope that helps. paul.

I was in Split and Trogir amount a month ago and i agree with the above,
you can pay 60/70 Euros for BB but get in the back streets and ask the locals and you will find clean basic rooms for 10/20 Euros.
Have a great trip and make sure you visit some Islands , ferries are good value.

Just a +1 on what Rockwell said , I can also add that as soon as you get anywhere inland then you'll find that prices drop quite a fair amount with respect to the coast.

You can find private accomodation "Sobe" just about anywhere, just ask people, a lot of young people speak perfect english. There's usually someone in most villages who rents rooms, or self-catering appartments, most of the time for around 20 euros or less.

I'm a sort of Italian- Scot, now living back in Italy near to Croatia, PM me if I can be of any help with anything!
