Carnet and visa RTW
 

Hello good people of HU.
I have a couple of questions, I intend to go on a RTW trip which should be for a little over two years.
1. When I spoke to the AA in India, they mentioned that they cannot issue a carnet for more than a year. So what do you all recommend that I do?
2. Should I get the visas before I leave from here or is it possible to do it on the way, in a different country?

Can you ask Indian carnet issuer if they will do an extension or issue a 2nd one if you send it back to them?

Visas really depend on the country and your nationality.

For example I had to get my chinese visa on the road, as they would not issue a visa valid for longer than 3 months in advance, and i'd already been on the road for 3 months hence not being able to get it in my home country, as it would be out of date by the time I got to China.

Pakistan on the whole will only let you apply for a pakistani visa in your home country. I have heard of the odd report against this but most people have had to apply in their home country.

I couldn't get a visa for Iran in my home country, as the embassy had been shut down to due diplomatic conflict.

Visa situations can change over time so advice you get now might not be valid by the time you go to leave.

I applied for most of my central asian visas before leaving from UK to Nepal, because I could, but had to make sure there was some overlap in the dates so I could be flexible with my route plan.

One piece of advise, try and get double entry visas as sometimes if you run into trouble in one country (like breaking down or having an accident), sometimes the nearest big city and place of help may be in the country you have just come from.

Take all advise with a pinch of salt as Embassies and countries can have different rules based on the place of issue and your nationality.

As far as I am aware all carnets only run for 12 months. People get new ones for another year. You must also maintain the legal road status of the vehicle at home in order to obtain the new carnet. The new one comes from the same people that issued your original carnet .. talk to them about it.

Carnets are only valied one year. Anyway i extendet my.

You have to get your visas on the way as most of them expire after 30 days.
